You do not have to work it out alone
The weeks after a baby arrives are their own kind of full. First Family and Child Services is being built so that the practical parts — a safe place for your baby, help with the paperwork, someone who checks in — sit in one building, close to home.
We are still renovating, so everything described here is planned for when we open. If you would like to hear from us as dates are confirmed, you can join the interest list — there is no commitment and no cost.
Planned services
What we are building for you
Five kinds of support, designed to work together rather than send you somewhere else. All of it is planned for when the center opens.

Infant childcare from 3–6 weeks
Room for more than fifty infants, in dedicated infant rooms with age-appropriate toys and safe places to play.

Postpartum family support
Regular check-ins after your baby comes home, plus help finding essential baby supplies and household items.

Childcare assistance
Help applying for government subsidies you may be eligible for, and for charitable support toward tuition where it is available.

A warm transition into childcare
We work at your pace, and with your permission we can coordinate referrals from birth centers and other care providers.

Help reaching nutrition programs, public benefits, employment resources and other social services.
Concept
When you are ready
Starting childcare at your pace
Going back to work, or simply needing a few hours, is a big step. Nobody will rush it. When you decide the time is right, the same people who have been checking in on you help you make the move.
- Visit the infant rooms and meet the staff before you enroll
- Start gradually, with shorter days, if that suits your family
- With your permission, we coordinate with your birth center or provider
- One point of contact, so you are not repeating your story
- Help with enrollment paperwork and subsidy applications

The center is still being built
Every service on this page is planned for when First Family and Child Services opens at 8035 South Honore Street. Childcare is subject to Illinois licensing, and we have not set an opening date, tuition or enrollment numbers yet.
We would rather tell you that plainly than have you count on something that is not ready. Join the interest list and we will write to you as soon as there is something real to share.
